Abbey Gate Chapel Choir Perform To London Audiences

Abbey Gate choir july 15

The Chapel Choir of Abbey Gate College recently spent 5 days in London singing Evensongs in St Paul’s Cathedral and Westminster Abbey.

A wide range of repertoire was sung during the week, ranging from a set of Canticles by the Renaissance composer Thomas Weelkes to a setting of Ave Verum by the Chester composer Philip Stopford.  Both venues in London were packed, with tourists in the congregation in excess of 500 people throughout the week.  During the free time in London the choir, which includes pupils aged 11 to 18, visited many of the London attractions which included the Kensington area, Harrods store, Hyde Park and Greenwich Village.

The pupils once again proved to be great ambassadors for the College and we would like to extend our gratitude to all of the staff who supported the visit, as well as the many family and friends who travelled to London and listened to the Choir perform quite magnificently.
