Abbey Gate College continues to produce talented Design and Technology students as Ellie McCarthy, who has just achieved a ‘full house’ of 10 A* grades in her GCSE examinations at the College, is the latest student to be awarded the prestigious Arkwright Scholarship. After completing a successful (and extensive) application form with the help of Head of Design Technology, Mr Dave Stockley and parent and structural engineer Mr Garside, plus a 2 hour aptitude test, Ellie was invited to attend an interview at Cambridge University.
In preparation for this, College governor Mr Colin Waker gave Ellie a mock interview which tested her knowledge on a range of engineering topics, and thankfully after the combination of staff, governors and parents, plus a great deal of hard work and preparation by Ellie, she was awarded a scholarship with global company Balfour Beatty.
Following her award, Ellie was contacted by The Smallpiece Trust, who are responsible for the Arkwright Scholarship, offering her a place on the NNL Lancaster University summer course. After completing another application form, Ellie was successful in gaining a place and thoroughly enjoyed her time in Lancaster. As part of her scholarship Ellie should also receive a form of work experience from her sponsor, as well as training in the latest Design computer software.
Here at ISA we would like to congratulate Ellie and wish her all the best in her future studies.
