Pupils from Ditcham Park School recently travelled to France for a music tour in Paris.
The first concert was at the Jardin Du Luxembourg Bandstand, located in a beautiful park area in central Paris. The venue was a joy to play in and the large audience, loved every performance. One couple even got up and danced to the Jazz band! The group then headed back into Paris for a Boat trip along the river Seine. The second performance was at one of the hotels near Disneyland. The musicians performed in the entrance and entertained the hotel guests.
The students also took the opportunity whilst in Paris to visit the stunning Notre Dame Cathedral and also visited Orleans, exploring the ancient city and the shops within it. One of the most memorable moments on the whole tour was having the honour of performing in Orleans Cathedral. The acoustics were amazing and the echo throughout the Cathedral was overwhelming. The choir, wind group, duets and soloists sounded amazing with the acoustics of the cathedral. It was truly a once in a life time experience. Before the performance the group attended Mass where a quintet performed ‘Locus Iste’ by Bruckner and ‘Ave Verum’ by Mozart; this was a special and memorable privilege.
All the students had a wonderful trip and experienced performing music in some amazing locations. Next year the Choir and Concert Band will be touring Belgium and Holland with planning and preparations well underway.
