ISA Essay Prize 2012

ISA offers three Essay prizes, awarded annually, at Junior, Intermediate and Senior level. 

The 2012 ISA Essay Competitions: Favonius (Senior), Max Gate (Intermediate) and Horsey (Junior)

FAVONIUS SENIOR ESSAY PRIZE 2012


Entries are now open for the 2012 ISA Favonius Senior Essay Prize. An original essay (500-800 words, prose, poetry or drama) is required and candidates may use the first or third person, past or present tense. Candidates must choose one of the following subjects:
1. My Brother's Keeper
2. On a Wing and a Prayer
3. Into the Deep
4. The Night Before Forever
5. Sleep
6. A Vicious Circle
7. In Black and White
8. Heroes

Schools may only submit one essay from one boy and/or one essay from one girl. Candidates must be aged 13+, 14+ or 15+ on 1st September, 2011 (equivalent to Years 9-11). Please attach a fully completed entry form, which includes the declaration of original work signed by the ISA Member. Entries should be sent to the CEO, ISA, 1 Boys’ British School, East Street, Saffron Walden, Essex, CB10 1LS, to arrive no later than Monday 5th March 2012.
Essays must be written on one side of the paper in the candidate's own handwriting, unless there are special medical or other circumstances. Entries will not be returned so copies should be retained by candidates, if required. From the entries, adjudicators will choose a winning boy and girl, and a second place boy and girl. Winners will receive a £25 book token and certificate, and runners-up a £20 book token and certificate. Prizes will be awarded to winning schools during our Annual Conference in May.

 

MAX GATE INTERMEDIATE ESSAY PRIZE 2012


Entries are now open for the 2012 ISA Max Gate Intermediate Essay Prize. An original essay will be required and candidates must choose one of the following subjects:
1. Facebook - good or bad? Discuss.
2. The Future
3. Should private schools be abolished?
4. Accident
5. The Wave
6. "The snow was falling relentlessly now. Would it ever stop?" Use this sentence at some point in your story.

Schools may only submit one essay from one boy and/or one essay from one girl. Candidates must be aged 11+ or 12+ on 1st September, 2011 (equivalent to Years 7 & 8). Please attach a fully completed entry form, which includes the declaration of original work signed by the ISA Member. HORSEY JUNIOR ESSAY PRIZE 2012


Entries are now open for the 2012 ISA Horsey Junior Essay Prize. An original essay will be required and candidates must choose one of the following subjects:
1. The Hottest Day of the Summer
2. In the Fast Lane
3. "Whatever you do, don't go down the......" You did, of course. Where did you go and what happened?
4. The Strange Message
5. "It was at that point that I realised I had been left behind." Use this sentence at some point in your story.
6. This year, 2012, thousands of people will visit Britain. How could you entice them to visit your local area? What special attractions would they enjoy?
