Students from Hipperholme Grammar School in Halifax made an emotional visit to Ypres last term to visit the site of the grave of a former Headmaster.
Captain Percy Andrews was killed in action in Belgium in 1914.
Current Head Jack Williams led a short ceremony of remembrance which was relayed live via satellite back to the school, enabling all staff and pupils to take part.
A group of over 30 pupils and staff made the trip to the Colne Valley British War Cemetery. The group then went on to Ypres to visit the Menin Gate and the Langemark military memorial. The tour also included an opportunity to take in the rich culture of Bruges and Ostend.
Year 10 pupil Kiera Stansell commented, “The remembrance ceremony was very moving and put much of the freedoms we take for granted into perspective. The fact that we could share it with fellow pupils back at home made it even more moving.”
