Young Ditcham School Writer Achieves National Success

21st January 2016

Ditcham Park School was delighted to learn recently of the achievement of one of our Year 7 pupils, Beth Reidy. A letter from the editor of Young Writers confirmed that Beth’s spooky tale entitled: Ghost, has been chosen for publication in their newest anthology, Fear itself – A Collection Of Ghost Stories. Young Writers have promoted poetry and creative writing within schools for more than 20 years, and run competitions for all age groups that aim to engage and encourage today’s young writers, and one of these competitions certainly inspired Beth.

As an enthusiastic and committed young lady with a natural flair for English, Beth demonstrates her creative and technical ability in Ghost, by building up suspense with the use of descriptive language and poetic devices. Indeed, Young Writers select work for publication based on ‘imagination, perception, expression and creative use of language’. Therefore, this is a great achievement for Beth, of which she should be very proud. Fear itself – A Collection Of Ghost Stories is scheduled for publication on 31st March 2016, and a copy of the anthology will be sent to the British library and further libraries across the UK and Republic of Ireland, as well as Ditcham Park’s own school library. In the meantime, you can enjoy Beth’s story by clicking here. Once again – congratulations to Beth; a fantastic achievement!
