Alton Convent National Cross-Country Championships

31st March 2016

After an incredible performance at the ISA Regional Cross Country championships, fourteen pupils from Alton Convent School travelled to Princethorpe College, Rugby to represent London West in the National Championships.

The Prep School athletes rose to the occasion with Will Hodges storming to a bronze medal in the U10s. The demanding and muddy conditions were favourable to the team with a string of outstanding results. The U12 boys delivered again with James Warne following his regional victory with an impressive fourth position. James led the charge for London West with his Alton Convent comrades, Alex Lelliot, Luke and Henry Blackmore all finishing in the top 30. The U12 girls also secured top 30 spots, with Beth Hughes and Jemima Hodges powering home. The talented runners contributed to a gold medal haul for the London West teams across both age groups. The results are even more remarkable as all of Alton Convent’s U12s have another year in this age group.

The successes continued for the senior girls.The U13s secured a silver team medal with Ella Beswick and Emily Killing producing superb performances finishing 8th and 10th.

A team gold was achieved by London West in the U16s with Alton Convent’s Freya Marsh finishing a formidable 6th.

The Over 16s continued to fly the flag in a closely packed finish with Lucy Jermyn and Erin Marsh leading the charge in 8th and 9th place respectively, followed by Jemima Kennedy and Lucy Woolcott. Once again the girls contributed to a national team gold for London West.

The pupils delighted in their own individual successes and those of their team mates; propelled across the muddy fields, to a welcoming din of cheers and encouragement. It truly was an unforgettable day at the races!
