ISA Girls Football Festival Written by Red House School
25th November 2016
On the 13th October, we took two of our u13 football teams from Red House School to the ISA National Girls Football tournament held at LVS Ascot.
After a long 3/4 hour bus journey on the Tuesday afternoon and a night in a nearby Travel Lodge, we headed into the competition with high hopes. After a good warm-up and a warm welcome from the LVS staff and ISA Sports Association Representatives.
We began our first A and B team matches strongly, keeping a lot of possession of the ball and passing accurately around the pitch. Both teams won their games against Alderey Edge and Gosfield comfortably giving us and early boost of confidence for the tournament. The event was split into groups of 4 teams each so we had 3 matches to play in the morning. Displaying the skills we’d developed in our training sessions leading up to the event, both RHS squads went on to win both our groups putting us through to the semi-finals after lunch.
During our free-time, we were given the opportunity to have professional coaching taster sessions from players from Reading LFC. This was a fantastic opportunity which left us inspired for our semi-finals that followed.
Our semi-final matches were both very even-sided and two competitive draws resulted in a penalty shoot-out to determine the two finalists. A’s played St. Josephs and B’s played King Alfred We were unlucky in both shoot-outs and we lost our semi-finals. However both games were very close. We ended the day with a match of RHS A vs RHS B.
Overall we came away in 3rd place for both teams as it was a draw in the 3rd/4th place play off ….. we didn’t want to endure another set of penalties so both teams ended the day on a high with bronze medals.
We thoroughly enjoyed the day and also were given amazing opportunities from ISA Sport- including having the chance to hold the official women’s FA cup! The event and atmosphere was great and definitely worth the long journey! I would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff at ISA Sport and at LVS Ascot for making it such a great event – a day full of memories to last a lifetime!
