It was a huge pleasure to attend the ISA South West Area Athletics Trials at Exeter on the 16th May.
The ISA Schools in the South West are very spread out geographically and many pupils and staff travelled long distances to attend the Athletics Trials.
Nevertheless the arena was full of competitors, staff, parents and supporters with some smaller schools bringing as few as 7 athletes to other schools bringing 70+ competitors all with the aim of providing the opportunity to compete in a purpose built athletics facility with the ultimate goal of gaining a place in the National Finals.
All the competitors experienced a very well organised athletics event where the competition was strong and the camaraderie, encouragement and support for fellow athletes was equally as strong.
The South West Athletes will hear shortly who has been selected to represent the South West in the National Finals, to be held at the international athletics venue the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham later this term, but all are to be congratulated on their performances at Exeter.
Thank you also to the Headteachers and staff who gave the pupils the opportunity to compete. Particular thanks go to the staff of Leehurst Swan School who organised the event this year and to Sam Matthews, from St Joseph’s School, the South West Area Sports Coordinator.
