After much anticipation, the staff and pupils of the Primary School of Cambridge International School have moved back into their home at the much-loved Cherry Hinton Hall, on the completion of a £3.5 million redevelopment. They have been temporarily based in the CIS premises in Bateman Street while the Hall was undergoing its major overhaul.
Cherry Hinton Hall has been home to the Nursery & Primary School of Cambridge International School since 2007. The school was purchased by the International Schools Partnership in 2015 and their substantial investment underlines the long-term commitment to the pupils and parents to deliver excellent facilities in which inspirational learning and teaching can be delivered.
Today, the children start their 2018 learning journeys in their new classrooms and are very excited about having the opportunity to explore and use their wonderful new facilities.
The refurbished hall has a new central enclosed early learning courtyard which provides a fun activity space for the school’s youngest pupils, linking closely with the internal teaching spaces, and a coveted outside classroom. These facilities provide the opportunity for free flow activities for the youngest members of our community.
The new ‘Giant’s Garden’ linked to Cherry Hinton Brook offers opportunities for children to extend their learning from the library to the outside, ensuring that the redeveloped school integrates into the stunning Cherry Hinton Park.
The unique location of the Primary School in Cherry Hinton Park, as well as the new landscaping and refurbishment of Cherry Hinton Hall, will provide the opportunity to expand our outdoor learning programmes and Forest School curriculum, which will enhance our pupils’ learning and development.
Mrs Philippa Mills, Principal, was at the door to welcome the children this morning and commented “I am immensely proud of the new building and was delighted to see the surprise and happiness on the children’s faces when they saw their new school for the first time.” On arrival, the children were saying how lovely and exciting the new classrooms were and they were looking forward to playing in the new play area.
The development will also allow Cambridge International School to expand its nursery to welcome children from the age of 2 years old for 50 weeks a year. This further expansion is planned to open in the next few months.
The Hall will be open 9.30 – 11.30am on Saturday 27th January for local residents to come a look at the newly restored hall. Please contact the school for further information.
