Ballard School has been awarded a second consecutive Artsmark Gold Award by the Arts Council England for its diverse and extensive range of arts enrichment and extra-curricular activities
For bringing learning to life through the Arts, Ballard School becomes one of a handful of Hampshire schools to receive an Artsmark Gold Award from the Arts Council England. The Artsmark Award was designed by schools, for schools, to reward institutions which make arts come alive and to give breadth and balance to curriculums.
Located in New Milton, Hampshire, Ballard School has a reputation for nurturing young talent and encouraging students to develop their artistic skills, alongside their academic development from a very early age. The Arts department offers a myriad of opportunities for pupils to explore their creative side through art, ceramics, dance, drama, expressive and performing arts as well as music. Every child is encouraged to get involved in the school productions which have already included Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the musical, Happy Days, and nativity, Sheik Rattle and Roll. This term they present a Magical Mystery Tour and the musical Seussical alongside an array of music and drama recitals.
The Artsmark Award Panel said:
“Ballard School offers a diverse and extensive range of arts enrichment and extra-curricular activities, which contributes well to its nurturing ethos. It is evident from Ballard’s submission that it positively views the arts as fundamental to the school’s success and that the arts make a very important contribution to the school’s good reputation in the local community, by attracting both pupils and high-quality staff to the school… A further strength of the school is their established partnerships with a variety of arts organisations, which affords pupils exciting and inspiring learning opportunities.”
Demonstrative of their quality arts education Ballard has excellent GCSE results in Art, Dance, Drama and Music (100% A*-C 2017). All Year 5 students successfully passed their Arts Award Bronze in 2017. Pupils have also been successful at both LAMDA and New Era Academy Examinations, with a 100% pass rate and an extraordinary level of Distinctions. Ballard has also received several other awards including the Education in Business Award for Excellence in Music and the ISA Award for Excellence in the Performing Arts.
Alastair Reid, Ballard School Headmaster, said:
“We are honoured that the illustrious Arts Council England has acknowledged our commitment to arts and cultural education. This prestigious award recognises the creative development of our students and we owe this to their unbounded talent and hard work along with the dedication of our excellent staff.”
