Highclare School hosted their 4th annual Junior Schools Art Competition, resulting in a gala viewing and presentation evening on Thursday.
In all 725 entries were received in two different age categories from pupils covering a variety of Junior Schools across the region.
Mrs Vanessa Hughes, Head of Art at Highclare Senior School, who acted as judge, said “The quality of the entries this year was exceptional and highlighted the amount of talent we have amongst junior school pupils in this area. I was particularly impressed with the depth of the children’s imagination and their interest in historical and modern art”
Pupils were asked to create a design for a mask and to use influences from famous artists. They were judged in two categories: Infants (5 to 7 years) and Juniors (8 to 11 years). All entries were on display.
Parents and pupils were invited to attend a Presentation Evening at the school, during which Dr Luker, Headmaster, and Mrs Angie Moore, Head of Senior School, presented prizes and certificates to the winning entrants.
Mrs Moore, Head of Senior School, said “It was a lovely evening and we were delighted to welcome everyone from surrounding primary and junior schools. It gave the event a genuine community feeling. This is the 4th time we have organised this event and it has been so well received.”
