Ballard U11 Girls Undefeated Champions of BCS Netball Tournament

12th October 2018

Students from Ballard, an independent, school in New Milton, have been victorious at the Bournemouth Collegiate School U11 Girls Netball Tournament

Ballard’s U11 Girls Netball Team recently travelled to Bournemouth Collegiate School (BCS) to compete in their Under 11 netball tournament. Facing BCS, Ocean Academy and St Joseph’s, the girls won all three initial games without conceding a goal thanks to some stand out defending from Sophie Hayward and Anna Ashworth which made it very hard for the opposing teams to get the ball into the circle.

Goal Attack and Captain, Sophie H, led her team fantastically in the early rounds, her work rate off the ball and perfectly timed passes made it very difficult for the opposing teams to stop her. Wings Charlotte S, Eloise B K and Eloise S broke down the oppositions’ attack effectively and worked together well to move the ball down the court.

The final game began as a very close contest with Bishop Aldhelm’s scoring two early goals and putting pressure on Ballard. Ballard’s U11 Girls Netball Team showed superb resilience to re-group: Centre Sofia O fed the ball into the circle to shooter, Emily T, with power and accuracy and Emily was very confident with her shooting.

As the game went on, Goal Defence Sophie H anticipated the oppositions’ movement and they rarely got the ball over the half way line. This, coupled with Sophie H’s movement in the circle to get the better of her defenders, made it very difficult for Bishop Aldhelm’s to turn over the ball. The game ended 8-2, this was credit to the girls’ team-work and resilience but also their hard work in training.

Andrew McCleave, Headmaster at Ballard, said:

“We are extremely proud of the girls’ tremendous efforts at the BCS tournament. To win the tournament undefeated is an exceptional achievement. Our netball teams at Ballard have achieved great success in 2018 and it’s great to see this continue in our new school term.”
