On Wednesday 29 January, The Ursuline Preparatory School, Brentwood travelled to Alleyn Court School in Southend with their U11 Netball squad to compete in the ISA Regional Netball Tournament.
13 schools took part in the event, which were split into 2 pools of 6 and 7 teams. The Ursuline played fantastically in their matches, attacking with confidence and defending with determination. They beat 5 teams which put them at the top of their pool.
They had to play Alleyn Court in the semi-finals, this was an extremely closely fought match which ended 3-3. After extra time the score was 4-4 which then meant a golden goal would decide the winner. It was a nail-biting time but the girls’strength of character and dedication really shone through, eventually they scored that crucial goal, putting them through to the national finals in Rugby later in the year.
If that was not enough excitement for the day, they then played in the final to see if they could win the tournament and bring home the trophy.
The final was against Finborough School, who were also determined to take the trophy home. This was yet another tight game with the full-time score ending 2-2. Extra time was given but no goals were scored so for the second time that day it went to golden goal. The ball travelled between both teams for what felt like hours but eventually The Ursuline Prep Team dropped the ball in the net making them the winners of the tournament.
Georgina Tweed, Head of Girls PE was delighted with the team and how they performed under great pressure. She is looking forward to taking them to the finals in March.
