“I hope to do as well in my A-levels as I have in my GCSEs. I’d like to study law at Oxford or Cambridge and would like to be a barrister one day,” said Finnula.
“I was uncertain how good my results were going to be, although I have been working really hard – I’m so glad that I did.”
Finnula continued: “I think what St David’s has given me is belief in myself. Before I came here, I was uncertain of my abilities, but the teachers made me believe in myself.
“I also think it helps the teachers care and want you to succeed and are always on hand to help you.”
Harry B is celebrating after receiving excellent results including seven A*, four A’s, and a distinction in Further Maths. The 16-year-old boarding pupil from Virginia, America, now has his eyes set on Cambridge University to study Mathematics.
His school years haven’t always been a happy time for Harry, as in his former schools he sometimes felt he didn’t fit in.
“I’m autistic and have ADHD so I sometimes felt stigmatised in the American school I went to in Belgium,” said Harry.
“But at St David’s I’ve felt totally accepted by the teachers and pupils and I’m happy.”
He continued: “My difficulties have been understood and differences are celebrated here unlike in the other school.”
Harry added: “I am quite academic, and I probably would have done well in other schools, but I wouldn’t have enjoyed it so much.”
Harry is set to study Physics, Maths, and Chemistry A-levels in St David’s Sixth Form.
Stand out performances came from Gilbert V who earned ten A*s and a distinction in additional Maths. Ella W who earned two A*s, four A’s, and three B’s. Elizabeth H excelled being awarded two Distinction*, one A*, one A, four B’s, and two C’s.
Once again this year due to the on-going disruption caused by the Coronavirus pandemic and the cancellation of exams, grades were awarded through a process of teacher assessment, set against a national standard, and approved by the awarding exam boards. The government is not publishing performance data for schools and colleges this year due to the varying impact of the pandemic.
St David’s College Headmaster, Mr Andrew Russell said: “I’ve been blown away by the hard work and determination that our pupils have demonstrated to achieve this incredible set of results. Our staff have gone above and beyond, and I am so proud to say that our school has been able to help and guide these young minds towards achieving their goals. I can’t wait to see what their future holds”
Congratulations to all.
