Retired (2014) ISA Head of a 3 – 18 co-educational day school
During my nine years as Headmaster of The Dixie Grammar School, I restructured the leadership and management of the School at all levels. Throughout my time in senior leadership I continued to teach Mathematics and I am the author of nine school ‘A’ Level Mathematics textbooks. I have also taught some ICT, computing and geology and have always maintained a keen interest in school music and outward bound activities. I read Mathematics at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, for my degree, followed by a PGCE at Durham University. Prior to my headship at The Dixie I was the Senior Deputy Head at Kirkham Grammar School, before which I was Head of Mathematics at Nottingham High School, where I began my teaching career following a brief spell in banking. I have been an ISI Team Inspector for 14 years and have been on ten inspection teams, leading on most aspects of the framework during that time. I was Chair of ISA in 2012, having previously chaired the Education Committee. I was also a long standing member of the GSA/HMC Universities Committee and a Board member of ISC. Currently I am a Vice President of ISA and a member of both the Finance Committee and Executive Council. I am also a governor of an independent school in Lancashire.
