I was a teacher for thirty five years and Headmaster of The Old School Henstead for the last twenty two of those, having retired in July 2008; I have taught the 4 to 13 age range in both day and boarding schools, co-ed and single sex. I trained as a PE teacher before obtaining a degree in mathematics. I have taught maths, science and geography across the age range. I was a member of the ISA Executive Council for fifteen years, was its Chairman in 2003 and am currently one of its Vice-Chair(s). I am a member of the ISA Inspections Committee and I am a regular ISI schools team inspector (including boarding). I am an advisory board member for a prep school in Devon having been a governor at a boarding prep school in Norfolk. Since retiring from headship I have been busy with inspection and have been consulting for ISA in many areas; inspection compliance and readiness, quality of teaching and learning, boarding, procedural implementation and governance, across all ages ranges from primary to sixth form.
