Designed for: Heads, Deputy Heads, Existing and New Pastoral Leaders and Boarding Staff (Middle or Senior leadership)
It is widely accepted that the provision of high quality pastoral care is at the heart of all successful schools. Opinion is rather more divided as to what constitutes excellent pastoral care and how schools should go about providing it.
This course will examine key facets of pastoral care and explore practical ways in which pastoral leaders can go about ensuring their schools conform with current best practice. The course will also examine how ISI inspection teams evaluate the quality of a school’s pastoral provision under the new inspection framework. This will involve looking at the kind of evidence that will help support ‘excellent’ judgements in Education Quality Inspections and the common pitfalls that can result in compliance failures. A series of scenario-based exercises will be used to help delegates develop strategies for tackling some of the difficult pastoral issues they may be confronted with.
The programme will include a review of what being a pastoral leader involves, focusing on the skills required for effective pastoral leadership as part of the middle / senior leadership team; looking at the various strategies available in pastoral leadership, developing teamwork and pastoral management.
