Bronte School pupils rank nationally and globally in World Maths Day Challenge
Year 6 at Bronte School were shocked and delighted to receive the news that they had achieved such a good result in the Mathletics Challenge, coming 1st place in the country and 3rd in the world in their age group category. Ore (aged 10) was very proud and happy to receive the accolade of being ranked 2nd in the country and 4th in the world as an individual player.
The challenge was to play 20 rounds of maths questions against other students from around the world, and answer as many questions as possible in 60 seconds.
All pupils were all incredibly excited and keen to take part, but had never expected to do so well, especially against so many other competitors.
Ore, who was ranked 2nd in the country and 4th in the world, is a very talented mathematician and thoroughly enjoys the competitive element of this event - he has been crowned the school's annual 'Times Tables' champion within school since he was in Year 4! Not only is Ore a talented mathematician, he is incredibly hard working in all areas of the curriculum and is Head Boy at the school. He will be missed at the end of this year as he moves on to Dartford Grammar School for Boys, having received outstanding scores in his Kent 11+ Test.
Maths at Bronte School starts young as the children are taught mathematical concepts through exploration and play. This builds a strong base of understanding throughout the school and allows older children to successfully move on to the more complex abstract areas of maths.
Mrs Wood, Headmistress, said "Ore has been an outstanding pupil throughout his time at Bronte School, and we are incredibly proud of all he has achieved individually. The success of the whole class in this worldwide competition show the very high level of teaching at Bronte and how hard our pupils work. As well as being placed first in the country as a Year 6 class, three other students in Year 6 were placed in the top 100 across the whole of the UK: Tristan (31st in UK), Aaron (34th in UK) and Shraddha (66th in UK). I am very proud of them all."
