Jameah Girls Academy pupils named regional winners in Health Education England careers contest

Aysha K, Aishah K, Khadeejah S and Zainab P, pupils at Jameah Girls Academy, have been named the East Midlands regional winners in an annual contest designed to encourage young people to consider a health or care career in the NHS. Health Education England (HEE) runs the Step Into The NHS competition in secondary schools each year to highlight the many career paths in health and care. This year’s competition saw an impressive 840 entries from students in 134 secondary schools throughout England, with an estimated 18,000 secondary students taking part. The competition, which asks students to create a job advert and description for a chosen NHS role, raises awareness of over 350 career opportunities in the NHS and supports the career aspirations of young people in education. The four winners from Jameah Girls Academy produced an animation video based on the characteristics, qualifications and skills needed to be a paramedic. They were awarded top prize for the East Midland region, each receiving a certificate and a £25 Amazon voucher to spend. Aysha, Khadeejah, Zainab, and Aishah said: “The NHS means a great deal to us because we have had first-hand experience of the wonderful job that paramedics do. We wanted to encourage people to pursue a career in paramedics because it is an opportunity for everyone to showcase their skills and expertise. Head of teaching and learning Fatima Patas said: “This competition was a great chance for pupils to learn about the different career prospects they could look forward to whilst coming to appreciate the hard work of our NHS Heroes – some of whom are family members of our pupils! They were able to learn the many varied jobs in the NHS, the breadth and depth of the career opportunities.
