Maths Challenge Results

Top results for Sherborne International students in a national Maths Challenge Each year Sherborne International students take part in the national Intermediate Mathematical Challenge, which aims to stimulate mathematical problem solving and is for students in Year 11 or below. To recognise the highest performers in the Challenge, the top-scoring 40% of participants are awarded bronze, silver and gold certificates. This year, we are proud to announce that 73% of the Sherborne International students who took part in February 2020 were awarded a certificate. The Gold Certificate is achieved nationally by the top 7% of entrants – 29% of Sherborne International’s participants were awarded this top-ranking certificate. Eleven of our students will now progress to compete in the Grey Kangaroo and Pink Kangaroo maths challenges. Two of our students have qualified to compete in Mathematical Olympiads – the Cayley Olympiad for Year 9 and the Maclaurin Olympiad for Year 11. Anna Snook, Teacher of Maths at Sherborne International, said “We are very proud of all our students who have performed so well in this year’s Challenge. Jim for qualifying for the Grey Kangaroo; Jerry, Yui, Martin, Julie, Harry, Vance, Weiyi, Diana, Roger, and Edwin for qualifying for the Pink Kangaroo; Eric for qualifying for the Cayley Olympiad – and Billy for qualifying for the Maclaurin Olympiad.” Fewer than 1% of students who compete in the maths challenges nationally are invited to take part in the Olympiad. We look forward to both contests, which will take place on Thursday 19th March.
