Shoreham College Athletes Go for Gold!
What a great performance from the Shoreham College Athletics team at the ISA Regional Championships last week. They went hunting for gold and found it, bringing back an outstanding 20gold medals!
53 pupils from Years 7-10 played their part both as individuals and as a team at Normans Park Athletics track in Bromley.
Focussed and brilliant performances on the day from Jeremy Hersheson - 200m and triple Jump, Joshua Firsht - 400m, Adam Firsht - 800m, Luca Bigg 800m, Daniel Phillips - 100m Hurdles, Piers Hamer - High Jump, Lily Simon - Triple Jump, Massimiliano Campbell-Brambilla - Long Jump, Chardonnay Bowles - Long Jump, Sara-Lucy Heap – Shot, Amber Spicer – Discus, the Yr8 & 9 boys Relay team – Adam Firsht, Samual Murray, Max Bushby, Zachary Tarry and the Yr10 & 11 boys Relay team - Daniel Phillips, Luca Bigg, Joshua Firsht, Jeremy Hersheson.
All of them winners in their events mean they have qualified for the ISA National Athletics at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham, where they will compete amongst the greats from each region in the UK on Wednesday 29th June.
There were many other silver and bronze medals brought home too with notable performances from all the pupils right the way through the age groups, special congratulations and thanks to the pupils who stepped up to do extra events due to injuries.
Ollie Edlin, Head of Sport said, “the most remarkable sight on the day is watching our pupils perform so brilliantly under pressure and the camaraderie they all share, they really are a credit to themselves and the College. Although bringing back the medals is a great achievement, the greatest reward for me is seeing the smiles on these young sportspeople, it really does make all the hard work worthwhile.”
