St Edward's pupil clinches all-time British record for Javelin
Hannah Takes British Javelin Record Hannah L. from St Edward’s School has clinched the British record for U13 Girls Javelin with a staggering throw of 41.66m. Hannah set this record whilst competing for the Midlands region at the Independent Schools Association National Athletics Championships which took place at the Alexander Stadium. Former Olympic Long Jumper Jo Mersh and former Olympic High Jumper Martyn Bernard were extremely impressed with Hannah’s achievement as they watched the event. The Swindon Harriers Athlete only took up the Javelin two years ago but through the coaching and guidance of Tom Dobbing, a former international Javelin thrower, Hannah has gone from strength to strength. Hannah is also a talented Hurdler gaining a Silver medal, as well as her Gold in the Javelin at the Wiltshire County Athletics Championship.
Hannah trains between 3 and 5 times a week at Swindon Athletics Club and sometimes she travels to Reading Athletics Club to meet her coach. Hannah is very grateful for the time and effort all the coaches at Swindon Athletics Club put in to her development.
Hannah feels very lucky to have such supportive parents and teachers as she works towards her ultimate goal of competing in the Olympics and World Championships in the future. Hannah’s role models include for former champion Javelin thrower Goldie Sayers because she was one of three British woman to throw over 60metres and she medalled in the Olympics. Hannah has enjoyed working with Javelin thrower Laura Whittingham in a 1:1 coaching clinic that she gave. Laura guided Hannah in the importance of a warm-up and stretching as well as technique.
