Exceptional GCSE results add to phenomenal extra-curricular achievements for Queen Ethelburga’s Collegiate students

It’s celebrations all over for Queen Ethelburga’s Collegiate (QE) today, with excellent results earned across QE’s two senior schools.

Queen Ethelburga’s Collegiate is a group of four schools in North Yorkshire, renowned for exceptional standards and a hub for pupils from the age of just 3 months all through to 19.

Remarkably, the proportion of 7-9 (A-A*) grades across QE Faculty and QE College stands at 63%, with all students achieving a broad range of qualifications across the curriculum.

So many stories of determination and excellence are being enjoyed by the QE community today.

Tommy joined as a boarding student at the start of Year 10, and has adapted superbly achieving 12 GCSE grade 9’s this summer. Not only does Tommy excel academically, but also creatively, as he was named the winner in the Key Stage 4 Drawing Category of the ISA National Art competition for the entire North region. Take a look at the creativity that ISA Arts is home to here, for all ages and across so many of the arts.

Rotola is another pupil who has excelled since joining QE Faculty in 2021. With an aspiration of studying Medicine at university, she’s taken some fantastic first steps towards that ambition after earning results including 8-9 in Science, and 8s and 7s in her other subjects. This is all the more impressive when considering that Rotola has achieved this results all whilst being a founding member of the Faculty Student Action group, demonstrating a commitment to shaping the QE experience for her peers.

Lauren Blakeley, Head of QE Faculty, is so proud of these young people for ‘embodying the values’ they will need beyond their time with QE:

“All of our staff here at QE are incredibly proud of the results we have seen today from our GCSE students. This goes far beyond the results themselves, we are proud of every individual for achieving their own goals and aspirations.

“Success for our students at QE is more than teaching them to do well at exams – it encompasses embodying the values they will need beyond their time with us including resilience, confidence and respect. We are delighted to share in the delight of so many achieving what they had hoped for.”

Steven Turner, Head of QE College, echoed a similar sentiment in praising the ‘ambitious’ nature the students:

“Year 11 are such a talented group of students and we are so proud of their amazing results. At the start of the last academic year we launched a new whole school revision project where students were introduced to the latest research and techniques regarding the most effective study methods. Our students really embraced this initiative and we have seen the impact in their outstanding results today.

“These excellent results reflect the ambitious nature of our students, together with the unwavering support of staff and parents. We are truly lucky to have such a superb group of students and look forward to seeing what they can achieve over the next two years in our Sixth Form.”

Like Tommy and Rotola, Erin is another individual that has experienced such a rewarding journey with QE, highlighted by an astonishing 11 grade 9’s at GCSE today. An exemplary student, Erin plays the piano and has become an essential member of the backstage crew for school productions since she joined as a boarder in Year 7.

Daniel Machin, Principal of Queen Ethelburga’s Collegiate, is excited to see many pupils return for Sixth Form at QE in the coming weeks:

“Credit goes to all our students for working incredibly hard over the past two years, to our staff for their continued support and exceptional dedication to teaching, and to all our parents and guardians for their continued support of QE.

“We look forward to seeing everyone return in the next two weeks for the start of sixth form!”

Tommy, Rotola and Erin, like so many other students are testament to the QE Collegiate’s motto of ‘To be the best that I can with the gifts that I have.’
