After four years of generative AI in our lives we are still struggling to work out its place in the classroom and beyond. This course will give you a comprehensive introduction into how to use AI in a productive, constructive and safe way inside your classroom.

There are obvious risks to AI use in education, and this workshop does not shy away from them. It focuses squarely on how to ensure we remain ‘human first, AI second’ in our approach, considering the ways AI can support us in teaching and learning without taking away our agency (or ability to think for ourselves). It will explore how to avoid cognitive offloading, how to ensure the trust between teacher and pupil is maintained, how to keep pupils safe when using AI tools, and how AI can truly expand horizons and add variety and interest to learning experiences.

The course is suitable for class teachers and those who lead them. It will be highly practical, not too much talk and not too much theory. It will take an agnostic approach to tool selection, showing how both Microsoft and Google schools can use tools in a safe and compliant way, as well as how to use tools outside of your school sanctioned ecosystem.

Key takeaways will be a vastly expanded set of tools, techniques an prompts to unlock a whole new way of looking at AI and using it in a classroom setting.
