It is widely accepted that the provision of high quality pastoral care is at the heart of all successful schools. Opinion is rather more divided as to what constitutes excellent pastoral care and how schools should go about providing it.

Aims of the course:

  • Examine key facets of pastoral care
  • Explore practical ways in which pastoral leaders can go about ensuring their schools conform with current best practice
  • Examine how ISI inspection teams evaluate the quality of a school’s pastoral provision under the new inspection framework – look at the kind of evidence that will help support ‘excellent’ judgements in EQI and the common pitfalls that can result in compliance failures
  • Complete a series of scenario-based exercises which will be used to help delegates develop strategies for tackling some of the difficult pastoral issues they may be confronted with
    Programme outline
