Farlington School celebrate best ever GCSE results

Yesterday, in Horsham, West Sussex, Year 11 students at Farlington School celebrated after an outstanding set of GCSE results.

A remarkable 77% of grades were achieved at 9-6, 52% at 9-7 and 95% at 9-4. 28% of all grades were earned at 9-8.

Founded in 1896, Farlington is a co-educational independent day and boarding school for pupils aged 4 to 18. Formerly an all-girls’ school, Farlington began welcoming boys in 2018 and has been fully co-educational since September 2021.

Headmaster, James Passam, ‘could not be prouder’ of the efforts of this Farlington cohort and the ‘great lengths’ staff have go to in ‘supporting’ students:

“The challenges that this cohort have had to overcome over these past two years are unique, and their performance is a great testament to their hard work, determination and resilience.

“I could not be prouder of their efforts, and would also wish to recognise the great lengths Farlington staff have gone to in supporting our students (both online and in the classroom), as well as the support provided by parents and our wider community.”

Headmaster Passam added that this set of results is the school’s strongest ever under examined conditions and since the new grading system was introduced:

“This year’s GCSE grades 9-6 are our strongest public examination grades under examined conditions since the new grading system for GCSEs was introduced, with over a 35% increase achieved since the last time examinations were sat in 2019, in addition, grades 9 to 8 have increased by 56% in the same time period, reflecting our continued strong academic growth.”

There is an understanding at Farlington that learning does not only happen in the classroom, and whilst academic results are of course important, extra-curricular pursuits also play a vital part in preparing children for the future.

Penny Hart, Head of Senior School, believes the students’ engagement with a variety of extra-curricular activities will ‘stand them all in very good stead’ for the future:

“Our students have achieved these fantastic results whilst also pursuing a wide range of extra-curricular activities at school, including sport, music and drama, as well as participating in outside clubs and activities,

“I have no doubt that this will stand them all in very good stead for the next phase of their education.”

A number of these Year 11 students will now join the Sixth Form at Farlington at an incredibly exciting time in the school’s development.

This is a period of significant growth for Farlington School, with recent investment into its Sixth Form Centre, the introduction of Design & Technology with a purpose-built workshop facility, and much more curriculum development that supports the excellent all-through education provided from Reception through to Year 13.

Set within 33 acres of beautiful parkland, on the borders of Sussex and Surrey, Farlington offers a perfect rural backdrop with plenty of space to grow.

A Farlington education can be summed up in the school’s three core values: Individuality, Opportunity and Community. Individuality is celebrated, opportunities abound, and every member of the school is recognised as a valued and valuable member of Farlington’s tight-knit community.
