Farlington School students to venture far and wide after fantastic A Level results

Farlington School pupils celebrated superb A Level results yesterday and the school’s ethos of individuality is certainly reflected in the diverse pathways that are leading out of the Horsham school.

Farlington School is an all-through co-educational day and boarding school, starting with nursery at 6 months all the way to Sixth Form. Individuality, opportunity and community are the school’s core values. Pupil voice is empowered and afforded opportunities to shine.

100% was the pass rate for students this year, with a remarkable 83% of students achieving one grade above their expected outcomes in at least one A Level in a testament to the value the school adds to the young people it serves.

With 74% of results coming in at A*-B, it’s no surprise to see that 83% of pupils secured a place at their first choice of university, exceeding the national average.

What’s just as impressive is the range of avenues that students have chosen to take, which speaks volumes for the opportunities that Farlington School provides for young people to explore their passions and the way in which they are inspired to follow these dreams on.

The diversity of subjects chosen by students leaving for university is remarkable, Urban Planning is on the cards for one, as is Neuroscience for another, alongside Fine Art, Psychology, Criminology, International Relations and History to name but just a few.

Of course, university is not the only pathway for departing students, with others opting to take a gap year, or choosing to gain experience in the world of work.

Millie is one such student, after earning an outstanding set of results she will begin volunteering at Butterfly Palliative Home, a palliative care hospice for children in rural KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. She then intends to pursue a career in medicine.

Headmaster James Passam is so ‘proud’ of how students have excelled, especially amidst a return to pre-pandemic grading levels:

“In a year when the media has repeatedly warned us of a harsher marking regime and to expect a realignment of grades to pre-pandemic levels, I am hugely proud of the achievements of our students and their performance against their expected baseline grades.”

Farlington has been a ‘home away from home’ for many students, Izzy, who joined in Year 2 and will now read History of Art added:

“I will miss Farlington so much, it is a home away from home and has made me the person I am today. I used to be really shy, but Farlington helped to build my confidence,

“The A-Level support provided at Farlington is unmatched elsewhere – and the support I have received today on results day has been amazing. I know that my teachers really want the best for me.”

Thomas echoed Izzy’s sentiment, he will now study Psychology after joining the school in Sixth Form:

“When I first visited the Sixth Form here, the people were so friendly. The small class sizes, and the independent-yet-guided experience offered at Farlington, really appealed to me. I will take away lots of great memories!”

Penny Hart, Head of Senior School, is ‘delighted’ with the Class of 2023’s achievements:

“Farlington caters for individual choice and as such our diversity in both degree subject choice and university destination is the embodiment of Farlington’s ethos in promoting and supporting each individual in their chosen pathway.

“I am delighted by how well this cohort has performed, especially in today’s challenging context.”

It’s a hugely exciting period for Farlington School. This September Little Farlington, their new nursery, will open, as well as new and improved facilities for Music and Computer Science and a new dance studio.

Information on the school’s next Open Morning, as well as a Sixth Form Taster and Open Day, can be found on their website.
