Schools Bible Project
Our KS3 pupils have were recently invited to study some of the central events in the life of Christ and show an understanding of their significance.
There were generous prizes including cash awards for schools, personal book prizes and, for the main winners, a visit to Parliament and a Prize Presentation at the House of Lords.
Our pupils were tasked to study one item from a list of biblical events and this would be their title. Angels Announce the Birth of Christ (Luke 2:4-20), The Wedding at Cana (John 2: 1-11), Christ Heals a Blind Man (Luke 18:35-43), Christ Calms the Storm at Sea (Mark 4: 35-41), Christ is Crucified (Matthew 27: 27-54) and The Resurrection (Mark 16: 2-18).
Every KS3 pupil took part. They had to imaginatively write about their chosen bible story as if they had actually been present. There were 37 entries from our school (the total number of KS3 pupils). Pupils awaited with baited breath the competition results then finally out of every school in the United Kingdom Stanborough Secondary School in Watford, Hertfordshire came 4th! Mazvita was delighted to go off to the House of Lords and receive her prize with her parents who were so proud of her. The team at the Bible project were so generous they even sent a paperback of the CS Lewis biography for the RE teacher Ms. Sinclair.
“Going to parliament was a far-fetched experience for me and my family. I learned so many things about parliament and about the depth of the competition itself. I took quiet long to get to parliament since it was all the way in London. My family and I travelled by train, since it’s a struggle to find parking in London. It took about 35 minutes, but it took us some time to find the actual building. In the end we asked some police officers that were out and about because and they gave us the right directions. As we were walking toward the building we could see Brexit protestors on each side of the road, one side was protesting to leave and the other side were protesting to stay. There were news reporters reporting what was going on, it was just such an amazing atmosphere. At the entrance were two men standing with guns we asked them to confirm whether we were in the right place or not. At first the place looks small from when you’re in the waiting room but that was just one building the actual parliament is in another building and it’s huge. We were early so we were taken into the main building and waited there for two hours and still no one was there we kept asking people if they knew where the Bible Competition award ceremony was as on the email it clearly said committee room G. Finally people came and where surprised to see us here because they had just done the tour of the parliament so we missed that, but luckily we didn’t miss the award ceremony. When we were all seated they told us the history of parliament. Then called the award winners to receive their prizes. Finally they called my name I was so excited to see what my prize was. I got 4 books they were really good and the authors of the books I was given were all Christian. Then we all had afternoon tea that my favourite part. There were pastries biscuits and tea of course and then people started taking photos and the lady gave me a book to give to my RE teacher Ms. Sinclair and she was ecstatic to receive it. When everything was sorted we had to hurry on the way home because it was our carol concert that same evening at Stanborough Park Church and I was taking part in two choir pieces.
Overall it was a great day and I had an interesting experience and I would recommend giving competitions a try”.
