All who are responsible for management and leadership in a school will periodically have to deal with difficult people whether they be pupils, parents or colleagues. This can lead to conflict situations which can be a significant source of stress and anxiety for senior staff.

This course will explore the legal considerations that need to be borne in mind and also, through a series of scenarios, provide practical advice on how difficult people can be dealt with efficiently, fairly and to the benefit of the school.

The aims of the course are to:

  • Provide guidance on how to deal with instances of serious pupil misbehaviour in a legally compliant manner
  • Provide strategies for dealing with various types of difficult parents
  • Equip leaders with the knowledge and skills to challenge staff under-performance and deal with misconduct
  • Identify reasons for resistance to change and explore ways it can be overcome
