This is the first session of a two part course. Delegates may book individual sessions, however attendance on both sessions is highly recommended.

The following will be covered over the two sessions:

  • The nature of headship - how it differs from senior leadership, and why headship might appeal to you at this point in your professional journey
  • What, in your experience, characterises the best headteachers, and what kind of head do you aspire to be?  What have you learnt from positive and negative leader role models during your career so far?
  • The practicalities - how to you compose a compelling and persuasive letter of application, which secures you an interview?
  • How to you prepare for, and perform positively at interview?  How do you navigate disappointment, and success?
  • Structured reflection - what are your next steps?  How can you give yourself the best possible chance of securing the right headship in the right school at the right time?  How can you make the most positive transition into the role, and ensure you make a strong beginning to your tenure?
