It is widely accepted that the provision of high quality pastoral care is at the heart of all successful schools. Opinion is rather more divided as to what constitutes excellent pastoral care and how schools should go about providing it. This course will examine key facets of pastoral care and how these can be delivered in practice. The course will also examine how ISI inspection teams evaluate the quality of schools’ pastoral provision under the new inspection framework. This will involve looking at what constitutes best practice and the common pitfalls that result in negative judgements being made in terms of compliance and educational quality. A series of scenario-based exercises will used to help delegates develop strategies for tackling some of the difficult pastoral issues they may be confronted with.

Course tutor: Steve Boyes

*suitable for MA Postgraduate modules accredited by the University of Winchester
