ISA House

Suitable for: Any staff who are responsible for tackling the issues created by GDPR

This course will provide delegates with a comprehensive overview of the data protection laws, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Data Protection Act 2018 (DPA18) and how they impact independent schools.

The GDPR and DPA18 came into force in May 2018 and replaced the current Data Protection Act 1998. With the headline of a maximum £17m fine, or 4% of turnover (whichever is greater) there is good reason to be concerned. Schools hold vast amounts of personal data and there are a number of important changes, so it is vital that schools are ready.

Aims of the course:

  • To have an understanding of GDPR
  • To understand the principles of document management (PIMS) and data security (ISMS)
  • To be aware of the mandatory records required under the GDPR accountability framework
  • To have an overview of important actions to take back to your school

Course tutor: Darren Rose CIPP/E of DHR Consultancy

Feedback from previous delegates

“Clear explanations of the new regulations and plenty of opportunity to discuss scenarios/concerns”

“The whole course was valuable and we came away feeling reassured that we did not have a mountain to climb as far as Data Protection is concerned.”

When asked which parts of the course delegates found most valuable they said:

“The relevance to an Independent School and dispelling the scary myths currently surrounding GDPR.”

“Practical solutions, suggestions and materials I can implement”

“The training was excellent, very beneficial. It covered aspects of GDPR that I was not expecting and gave me a good overall understanding as well as transferable skills to use when back at school. The ‘resource kit’ is particularly useful.”
