Learning: High quality feedback, self-regulated learning and the development of skilful teaching
Location
Online
This course will be run online via Zoom. Full details of how to join will be sent in advance of the day.
Suitable for: Any member of staff with responsibility for the effectiveness of teaching and learning, or who is seeking the opportunity to reflect on their current pedagogical strategies in the light of emerging research and best practice.
High quality feedback is potentially the single most important ‘weapon’ in a skilful teacher’s armoury.
The Education Endowment Foundation found that effective feedback, alongside self-regulated learning, can add up to 8 months extra learning progress or the equivalence of half a GCSE grade. It enables pupils to develop independent improvement strategies and the confidence to self-regulate their own learning.
But even in the most successful of schools’ researchers and inspectors report that the quality of feedback is highly variable and resistant to improvement as is the impact of self-regulated learning.
The course is highly experiential in nature and delegates will primarily focus on developing their own and their school’s professional practice in both of these areas, alongside acquiring the expertise in shaping a whole school CPD programme.
