Queen Ethelburga's inspire potential doctors of the future with Medicine careers talk

Queen Ethelburga's pupils in Year 9 and above have had the chance to learn about a potential career in Medicine through a talk from two visiting doctors recently. Dr Daranijo and Dr Awobajo came to Queen Ethelburga's to detail routes into the medical profession from GCSE and A Level, whilst also discussing the different types of University courses that are on offer, including traditional and BPL university programmes. The talk was part of the Super Curricular Programme at Queen Ethelburga's, with students also informed of the personal characteristics that would be required to succeed in the Medicine field. Dr Awobajo and Dr Daranijo also told students about the different specialisms and types of doctors within the medical profession, after qualifying following F1 and F2 foundation years. Pupils took part in an engaging quiz to test their knowledge following the talk, as well as being offered the chance to ask the doctors some specific questions of their own. Queen Ethelburga's employ a comprehensive, whole school Careers Programme. Different career possibilities are introduced to children during Key Stage 2 and students are inspired to take initial planning steps in Key Stage 3. Pupils are then reinforced with a personalised process in Key Stage 4 and finally prepared for their post-18 decision making during Key Stage 5. The Thorpe Underwood Estate site that the school have been based in since 1991 was home to literary legend Anne Bronte and supported a stew pond that fed monks on their travels to and from Fountains Abbey. Queen Ethelburga's welcome boys and girls from the three months old, all the way through to Year 13.
