Suitable for: Persons responsible for their school’s SCR or responsible for monitoring the SCR regularly

We are giving schools the opportunity to attend a workshop focused on their Single Central Register – giving advice on how to make it compliant, and therefore ready for when the inspector calls. Delegates will have the chance to work with an experienced Inspector, who will tell them exactly what the Inspectors need to see. (Delegates should bring anonymised versions of their SCR)

Delegates will leave this course with:

  • Knowledge of the statutory requirements for safer recruitment
  • An understanding of the requirements for recording the required checks in the SCR
  • Knowledge of the requirements for keeping information regarding employment checks

Session Topics:

  • A full discussion about what the requirements are for the different types of ‘staff’, including looking at the ISI Commentary on the Regulatory Requirements
  • Discussion of the regulatory failures which have affected schools in the past and time to self-check the current SCR
  • The implications for staff records and how the RI looks at them
  • Planning for a check of files on return to school
  • Opportunity to ask your relevant questions of the tutor

Course tutor: Liz Coley

Feedback from previous delegates

When asked which parts of the course delegates found most valuable they said:

“The practical element where we could use our own SCRs and our own SR policy. I also liked that it was a small group so the leader was able to help us all out with our individual queries for which there was plenty of time.”

“Learning what is the preferred layout for the SCR and exactly what it should include. Dismissing some myths about what should and shouldn’t be done in the recruitment process and clarifying grey areas.”

“As it was limited numbers it gave a good opportunity to raise many questions particular to our setting.”
